A 33m² entertaining area right off the back deck, being laid in French pattern travertine — currently at the base preparation stage.

About This Project
This job started with the old paving in this spot pulled up and cleared back to the deck, with a weed membrane laid over the exposed ground before any base material went in. Road base has since been compacted and screeded to a consistent fall within string lines run off the deck, and the first travertine pavers have been dry-laid in the corner to set out the French pattern before anything is fixed down permanently. French pattern uses four different paver sizes in a repeating, non-grid layout, which reads far better in a large entertaining area than a uniform grid — but it means the layout has to be worked out properly up front rather than laid paver by paver. We'll update this project with final photos once the travertine is down and the job is complete.
